Nigeria’s new ambassador-designate to the Royal Kingdom of Thailand; concurrently the country’s accredited envoy to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, His Excellency Ovikuroma Orogun Djebah was on the 23rd of June, welcomed by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Thailand chapter.

The event which was held at the premises of the Embassy of Nigeria located at Klongton Nuea, Wattana, Bangkok, Thailand started at about 11 am, with a troupe of Nigerians representing various groups and interests featured sub-events that brought glam to the occasion.

At the event, the new ambassador-designate did not hide his joy for being amid progressive Nigerian citizens, responsibly supporting themselves, abiding by the law of their host country, and making their home country proud. While speaking to this group of Nigerians who came to welcome and honor him, he reiterated the need for everyone present to see themselves as an ambassador of Nigeria.

The event was graced by the executive members of the NIDO Thailand chapter, represented by President, Dr. Lloyd Nwafor; the Secretary, Chris Mbazuligwe; the Treasurer and Media Officer, Okey Okafor; Financial Secretary, Oludare Oluwajuyiyan and the Publicity Secretary, Shola Adeola. Also present were Nura Gambo Rabiu and Ejike Ani.

The leaders of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Thailand were also present, so were representatives of the student community Thailand and the leaders of the Enugu state community in Thailand.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of an award won by a Diaspora Nigerian, Dr. Auwal Abubakar to the new ambassador-designate. Dr. Abubakar was the overall best doctoral graduate at the King Mongkut University of Technology, Bangkok.

The new ambassador received the award and applauded Dr. Abubakar for his sterling performance and hard work. The ambassador admonished everyone present to learn from Dr. Abubakar, and continue to be good citizens of Nigeria in Thailand.

The event ended on a good note with the presentation of gifts to the ambassador by different groups who had gathered in his honour.
