Nigerians In Diaspora Organization (NIDO) was conceptualized and conceived in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, in September 2000, following a meeting between the then former President of Nigeria, His Excellency. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, and the Diaspora members in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom. Ever since, its objectives have included but are not limited to harnessing the human and material potentials of the Diaspora, as well as engaging them in the development process in Nigeria. This is to bring NIDO unique talents, tremendous experiences, expertise in critical skills, industrial discipline, and best practices in building the Nigerian project.
NIDO Thailand Chapter was established on 23rd March 2013 by His Excellency, Hon. Chudi Okafor, OON. The former Ambassador of Nigeria to Thailand and Myanmar. The aim is to highlight the endless investment opportunities in Nigeria, liaise with all levels of government in Thailand on matters of interest to Nigeria and Nigerians in Thailand and to serve as a forum for social and cultural interaction among Nigerian professionals inter se and amongst them and their Thai and foreign colleagues.
NIDO has attained a position of influence and recognition at both the Federal and State levels in Nigeria. There are a lot of Nigerian professionals today in Nigeria in the Organized Private Sector, many of whom were products of NIDO. As a nation, more than ever before, there is an urgent need to strengthen our institutions, build our infrastructure, and much more, but that is only possible with the expertise, skill, experience, commitment, and dedication that NIDO has in abundance.
To underline the above point, one of the critical founding voices in NIDO, Ambassador Joe Keshi, has this to say: “The strength of NIDO lies in its skills, expertise and ability to attract capital for development, for the production of goods and services, creation of jobs and wealth….”
NIDO is here to create a platform with meaningful contributions, interaction, collaboration, and cooperation and establish synergies and partnerships among professionals, organizations, companies, and the Nigerian state for the overall interest of all.
In addition, it is significant to note that NIDO is a pan-Nigerian organization that transcends all ethnic, religious, group and parochial interests. Members are judged solely based on the services rendered to our dear country, Nigeria, and any efforts that can foster unity and peace.
The central vision of NIDO Thailand chapter is to bring Nigerians living in Thailand together and to identify those willing to offer their skills (Education, Information Technology, Health, Economic, science, Administration, Law, Political and Corporate Governance, Management etc.) to assist Nigeria's national development.
These skills will be needed in developmental projects by government and non-governmental Organizations. NIDO Thailand chapter as a result requires those Nigerians living in the Thailand who can afford to spend a period of time in Nigeria to contribute their skills to help Nigeria’s developmental process. NIDO Thailand chapter provides the unique opportunity for Nigerians living in Thailand to learn to work and collaborate with one another in the task of nation building of our homeland.
The Organization strongly believes that Nigerians in Thailand can make significant contributions towards Nigeria through programs, policies, and advocacy to harness their talents, expertise, and resources for Nigeria's development and nation building.
